Polyester slings are a cost effective item of lifting equipment where it is now cheaper in most cases to buy new rather than have them inspected for a Report Of Thorough Examination.
There are two types of polyester slings:
Round slings which are endless with no join
Webbing slings with soft eyes on each end
Within the lifting industry there are standard colours and widths that indicate the capacity of the sling.
Polyester slings allow the load to be choked but this does reduce the lifting capacity of the sling.
Round Lifting Slings
Round slings are easy to use, efficient in operation and gentle on surface contact. The load bearing core of the round sling is high tenacity polyester yarn wound continuously without a joint to produce maximum strength.

Webbing Slings
Webbing slings are available with metal end fittings, soft eyes and endless belt slings. Our webbing slings are woven from high tenacity polyester yarn and offer solutions to most lifting problems. Their low weight, flexibility of use and ease of handling can give significant improvements in safety and costs when compared to other forms of lifting equipment.

Polyester Sling Care and Protection
Damage to polyester slings is common and if you notice any signs of damage to the sling it should be removed from service until inspected by a competent person.
Paint, oil etc also has an effect on the sling and again if in doubt the sling should be removed from service. Polyester slings are also prone to heat damage.
To help protect the slings a protective sling sleeve can be applied to the sling especially where sharp edges are involved, although where sharp edges are on the item to be lifted it is advised to seek an alternative way of lifting.
Mercian Lifting Gear can offer protective sling sleeves that have velcro so that it is easy to change the damaged sleeve rather than return the complete sling.
